A story how we went to Ethiopia, searching for ancient Orthodox Christian rock-hewn churches and spiritual experience, but the only Biblical experience we had was being stoned.

Trail riding in the Bale Mountains was the adventure of a life time: horse handlers who run as fast as galloping horses, forests full of cute monkeys and fields packed with fleas. A trail ride in Ethiopia was like being sucked into a time warp: clay huts next to the rivers, donkeys and horses gathering by the streams to drink water. No electricity, no cell phones. The way it was 3000 years ago. Living off the grid. No doubt we loved it.

My trail ride in the Ethiopian Bale Mountains was a lifetime experience in the deepest sense of these words. Even though I’m always trying to get off the beaten path, I have never thought it was possible to get that far off it.
